The Snake and Herring Winery

Back in 2011, two self-confessed wine junkies—Redmond “Herring” Sweeny and Tony “Snake” Davis—decided it was time to trade in the day jobs for something far juicier.

Over a killer parcel of Porongurup Riesling (and probably a few glasses of it, too), an idea started bubbling.

Cue the late-night text marathons, dawn vineyard meetups, and a fair bit of mischief—and just like that, Snake + Herring exploded onto the wine scene.

Their Philosophy

Snake + Herring treats the South West of WA like a treasure map—every vineyard a jewel, every block a clue to something worth chasing.

Winemaker Tony never stops exploring. Snake + Herring is his vehicle to push boundaries, chasing the styles and regions others overlook.

With unexpected combinations of region, sub-region and variety, they craft wines that are bold, memorable and just a little rebellious. Hand-picked fruit, wild ferments and minimal tinkering let each vineyard speak for itself.

Snake + Herring partners with growers who share their commitment to quality and sustainability. Together, they avoid chemical shortcuts, prioritise soil health, and support vineyards working towards organic and biodynamic certification.

Music also runs deep in the brand’s DNA. Each wine takes its name from a song significant to the team—tracks that linger in the mind, just like the wines themselves.
