Tasting Notes
Our Helbig Shiraz is dry grown and with the well-established root system, the stunning old vines are not fussed, even with short, hot bursts in the weather. The 2022 ripening season rolled in after a lucky escape from close-by hail events. Very mild summer conditions allowed for steady flavour development on the vine and a seamless wine is the result. We held the pressed wine on lees until post-malolactic fermentation, then racked to preserve fruit freshness and to balance the bold tannin structure of the wine. Our 2022 wines have been shy in the early months, taking time to release their power and depth of flavour. Maybe, as they are such complex wines, they have needed time to release their true characteristics! We have watched this wine develop and mature in oak, and we are excited to finally release it.
